EDUCATION & CAREERS
Graduate Medical Education: Addiction Medicine Fellowship
Marworth Alcohol & Chemical Dependency Treatment Center, an entity of Geisinger Health System, offers a one-year Addiction Medicine Fellowship program. Accredited by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM) Foundation, this unique fellowship opportunity provides a broad education experience in addiction medicine and is open to board-certified or board-eligible physicians from any specialty.
The program is designed to develop advanced expertise in addiction medicine based upon sound scientific and professional practice foundations. Though predominantly a clinical experience, the fellowship program offers a remarkable amount of one-on-one teaching time with faculty to help prepare for the certification examinations of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
The primary training method in the Addiction Medicine Fellowship program is supervised service delivery and direct contact with chemical-dependency patients in a very dynamic and active treatment facility. Supervision and oversight will be consistent with training activities to provide an intensive and advanced experience.
The selected Addiction Medicine fellow will provide inpatient and outpatient chemical dependency assessments, treatments, and consultations. There will be opportunities to provide chemical dependency counseling and appropriate psychotherapy under the direct supervision of experienced, credentialed, qualified physicians.
Curriculum
Fellows will typically work Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5 pm, with call approximately every fourth night and every fourth weekend.
