People in the LGBTQ community experience shame related to their identity as well as their addiction. In addition to recovery support groups, Geisinger Marworth offers peer support groups to help addicted individuals in the LGBTQ community find comfort and support. The LGBTQ Support Group provides a safe environment to express feelings related to LGBTQ specific issues that may have been masked with alcohol and other chemicals.

The LGBTQ Support Group focuses on topics such as:

  • Relationships in early recovery
  • Methamphetamine use and post-acute withdrawal
  • Processing lack of social acceptance
  • Wiping away shame
  • Education on use of medication to prevent and/or treat sexually transmitted disease
